Ridiculous.
-The game itself is very bad, if you miss more than about 5 notes in a row, you are failed, making the game miserable to play despite the actual difficulty being extremely easy. Even on expert this game is a piece of cake.
-The guitar is of very poor quality compared to my Guitar Hero controller, the neck is flimsy, the buttons feel unresponsive, and the strumming trigger is very squishy(making it very hard to get an accurately timed note) I’m pretty sure the guitar peripherals were made for about 1 dollar.
-The vocals are extremely difficult to get right, also making the game much less fun to play. For example, while playing Tom Sawyer you are expected to sing like Geddy Lee (the high pitched vocalist) instead of the game recognizing your voice. Don’t know about most of you, but I can’t sing like a girl. I feel like an impersonator rather than a vocalist.
-The drum-set is also bad, very bad. A great concept, but extremely poorly executed. The drums and stand are very flimsy and EXTREMELY unresponsive. You really need to slam the drum heads in order to hit notes.
Also, being a drummer, I can assure you that actually following the drums in the game is ridiculous, it is WAY too easy and there are notes added that don’t exist in the song, notes that obviously should be there but are not. You are also forced to hit drum heads that are in the wrong position compared to a “normal” kit. My hi-hat is not to the far right of my snare.
The production of the game was OBVIOUSLY rushed to get it out before Christmas. I cannot wait until the makers of Guitar Hero work all the kinks out of this game and actually make something you can have fun playing, and not get frustrated with its poor quality, easy difficulty and overly simplified accessories.

As a past Amazon customer, I am ashamed and appalled that such a reputable company such as Amazon would mark up their prices well over 100% on items that they know will be ripping off customers. The price mark up on “Rock Band” is outrageous and should be criminal. This is not cocaine that you are selling on the streets, this is a childrens toy.

Almost $400 for this complete package is a ripoff. The game is great, but the package is not worth the PS2 Holiday pricetag. If you have guitar hero guitars, you are halfway there. Just think of this game as an extension to Guitar Hero, but with more popular rock songs that are taylored to the Karaoke crowd. And you can buy a Logitech microphone that works with Karaoke Revolution for only $4.99 at Best Buy. It works great with this game. Unless you’re a drum enthusiast, the drums are not worth it IMO. Extremely difficult at times.

We set this game up, and after messing with the calibration for a half an hour finally got to play. We were horrible. I knew I had no rhythm but the drums were frustrating. In Guitar Hero I’m pretty good, I get about 98% or higher on medium level (still kinda suck on hard), but with rock band I almost fail easy songs. This leads me to believe that the calibration is STILL way off. I guess I’ll have to drag this into my bedroom on my normal teeny tiny TV… smash everyone in the cramped room and try it again…great party game. The guitar controller is a piece of crap, I hate the strum bar, and the start/select buttons are too close to the bar so I kept accidently hitting them with my hand.
I’m a girl, so naturally my voice is higher than the singers, and found I’d only get “Awesome” when I sang in exaggerated low vocals. Also for a kareoke game they chose some weird songs, that Im guessing most people wouldn’t know very well…but I did have a blast singing In Bloom and Say It Aint So.
I guess on my day off I’ll have to spend the day really figuring out the calibration and getting used to drums. I just feel a little disappointed. When I first got Guitar Hero I sucked, sure, but I at least had a lot of fun learning. This game just frustrated me.
